Freddie C. Hackett was born on May 24, 1953, to Quincy Thomas Sr. and Veola Hackett in Crockett, Texas. He was the fourth of ten children and grew up surrounded by the warmth and close-knit bonds of a large family. His family developed his sense of character, loyalty, ethics, fairness, and genuineness.
Freddie cherished spending time with his children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, siblings, and extended family. He had a sharp wit and a mischievous sense of humor, often playing practical jokes that left everyone laughing. He was always wearing a smile and generous with both his time and his love. He encouraged those around him to think critically and solve problems, often reminding us with his trademark phrase: “Read the directions or look it up.” Detail-oriented and always eager to lend a hand, when something needed fixing, though the results didn’t always turn out as planned, much to everyone's amusement. He had a larger-than-life personality and never missed a chance to "show up and show out," leaving lasting impressions wherever he went.
Freddie attended Lovelady High School. Following the completion of his education, he went on to proudly and bravely serve his country in the United States Navy. This chapter of his life brought him profound pride, purpose, and fulfillment. Over the course of 20 years, Freddie exemplified unwavering dedication, resilience, and patriotism. His military service became a defining part of who he was, and he often spoke of his time in uniform with deep humility and reverence, recalling it as one of the most meaningful and honorable experiences of his life.
Freddie C. Hackett, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, friend, and proud Navy veteran, departed from this life on Friday, May 2, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of strength, service, and love. He was preceded in death by his parents: Quincy Thomas Hackett Sr. and Veola Hackett, four sisters: Catherine Hackett, Doris Marie Yarborough, and Sarah B. Hackett, Evelyn Hackett, and three brothers: Isaac Bernard Hackett, John T (Johnnie) Bailey, Quincy Thomas Hackett Jr., and aunts and uncles.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Sofia V. Hackett, with whom he shared a life rich in love and partnership. Freddie was a dedicated father to his children: Jasmine V. Hackett (Pierre), Anthony V. Hackett, and Daniel V. Hackett (Madeline), and a cherished grandfather to Leiah E. LaCossade, Malia Joy H. LaCossade, and Penelope B. Hackett. He is also survived by his loving siblings: Edward D. Hackett (Estella), Kathleen Belford (Foster), and John L. Hackett (Gloria), and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, friends, and colleagues who remember him for his steadfast support and generous heart.
Freddie’s warmth and kindness were felt deeply in his hometown of Crockett, Texas, where he remained a well-loved figure, and in San Diego, where friends and extended family cherished his vibrant spirit and unwavering loyalty.
Though Freddie has left this world, his legacy lives on — in the values he instilled, the memories he created, and the love he shared. He will be profoundly missed but never forgotten. His spirit endures in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who had the honor of knowing him.
