On Tuesday, July 2, Carl Duane Woodend, a beloved husband, passed away at the age of 86. He was born on May 20, 1938 to Louis and Doris in San Diego, California. After graduating from Point Loma High School, Carl enlisted in the Army. He was very proud of serving in the military and was stationed at the 7th Army Headquarters, G3 Section in Germany from 1957 to 1960. Upon his return, he worked for Reed, Miller & Murphy advertising agency, and in 1972 started his own advertising agency, Woodend, Nessel & Friends. Carl operated this agency for 30 years winning numerous awards for his agency and clients until his retirement in 2002.
Carl was a very active bike rider and a big fan of thoroughbred racing. He became active as a horse owner in the late 1970’s until the late 1980’s and enjoyed seeing them run and hanging around the barn. He became very interested in riding horses and started taking lessons at age 50. Later on he became interested in watching dressage horse shows along with his wife who was an active participant.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene, of 53 years.
